Seed
Seed is a design system for React and Tailwind CSS. It is calm on purpose: true-gray surfaces with no tint, one accent color, and five status colors. Your brand is the only color that reads as brand on screen.
What's in it
- @flinbu/seed-tokens: every color, space, radius, shadow and type style as CSS variables, a Tailwind CSS v4 theme, DTCG JSON for other tools, and the
seedcommand that builds brand themes. - @flinbu/seed: React components built from those tokens. Interactive ones sit on Radix for keyboard and screen reader support.
You can use the tokens alone, in any framework, or both together.
Principles
- Tokens, never raw values. Components only use tokens, and a test fails the build if one sneaks in. That's what makes a theme reach every corner.
- Semantic names. Build with
bg-primaryandtext-secondary, notneutral-50. A theme changes what the names point at; your code doesn't change. - Accessible contrast is checked, not hoped for. Seed's own palette passes WCAG 2.2 AA in Light and Dark, and every theme you make is checked the same way.
- Plain words. Labels start with a verb, errors say what to do next, and nothing shouts.
Status
Seed is in its first version: 20 components today, with selects, dialogs, menus, tabs, tables and more on the way. The API follows the Seed library used in Fenly, so it's stable in shape.
